For a refreshing break from the summer heat, Indiana's lakes are second-to-none—but when you really want to turn it up a notch, check out the variety of water parks around the state. With spraygrounds, wave pools and every type of slide imaginable, the state's water parks will cool the kids down while they have a blast—and parents may not be able to resist a slide or two themselves.

Atlantis is a welcome side trip on any visit to Louisville: Water slides, a wave pool, a 6,000-square-foot little kids' area with its own smaller slides, and regulation sandvolleyball courts will provide plenty of watery diversions for the whole family.

Deep River is a municipally owned (but you wouldn't know it) water park with water and tube slides, a tubing river, wave pool, and play area for younger children. (Store it away: Deep River is also open for ice skating in the winter months.)

It doesn't have to be scorching or sunny outside to enjoy this huge indoor water playground. Located in Raymond Park on the city's southeast side and open year round, Indy Island Aquatic Center houses a leisure pool, water playhouse, water sprays and geysers, a 150 ft. spiral slide, and a three-lane lap pool (as well as a hot tub just for grown-ups!).

Just a mile from Indiana Dunes State Park, Indiana's largest water theme park has more than 13 water sliders, a wave pool, tubing river, children's play area and volleyball courts—and even an indoor playground to boot.

Indy's west-side's newest spot for sun and fun includes three waterslides, a lazy river, a kids' play area with water jets, water guns and ropes, an all-ages play area, lots of room for sun bathers, a six lane lap pool, two diving boards and concession stand, spread out over three tropical-themed acres.
